To support the preservation of indigenous linguistic and ethnobotanical investigation by creating an illustrated publication based on native ethnographer Oscar Lamourt Valentín’s “Mitología Lareía”. Lamourt Valentín made the first etymological and linguistic study of jíbaro words by connecting Taíno words still present in jíbaro vocabulary with Mayan language. As part of his investigation, he published a collection of myths from his hometown in Lares, which are rich in jíbaro vocabulary and botanical references. Through transcribed audio interviews with local native researchers and members of the Canjíbaro movement, I will contextualize his work to better illustrate and color these myths.
